According to Section 2 Conditions for a Marriage under the Act
A marriage can be performed under this Act: Between two persons.
The marriage is valid only if the following conditions are met:
1. No Existing Spouse
Neither person can have a living husband or wife at the time of the marriage.
2. Minimum Age:
• The man must be at least 21 years old.
• The woman must be at least 18 years old.
4. No Prohibited Relationship
The parties must not be closely related by blood (consanguinity) or marriage (affinity) if such a relationship makes the marriage illegal under the law applicable to either of them.
According to Section 4 Notice of Intended Marriage
If two people want to get married under this Act, one of them must first give a written notice to the Marriage Registrar before the marriage can take place.
According to Section 6 Objection to Marriage
After a notice of intended marriage is given under Section 4, the marriage can be performed 14 days later.
According to Section 10
Before the marriage takes place, the bride, groom, and three witnesses must sign a declaration in front of the Marriage Registrar. The declaration must be in the form given in the Second Schedule of the Act.
